CST vs CDT — What's the Difference?

Like most US time zones, the Central Time Zone switches between two modes annually:

Central Standard Time (CST) — UTC−6, active from the first Sunday of November through the second Sunday of March.

Central Daylight Time (CDT) — UTC−5, active from the second Sunday of March through the first Sunday of November.

During CDT, Central Time aligns with Eastern Standard Time (EST), which can cause confusion when scheduling calls with East Coast colleagues who are also on Daylight time. Always double-check abbreviations for critical meetings.
